There they visited an aquarium, and a man named Mr Gray showed them a number of specimens under a microscope, along with 'two shrimps and a crab which were in a bottle, they didn't seem to be on the best of terms'.On the 16th of August the author and three companions took a walk around the parish of Loudon, to the east of Kilmarnock, and observed a number of trees and plants while walking the grounds of Loudon Castle. On the 17th, they observed ducks and swans in the Ayreshire town of Burnhouse, before taking a train to the nearby town of Darvel. The remaining entries concern the observations of local plants and wildlife, all in the East Ayreshire region. With fourteen beautifully rendered vignette and full page illustrations of local fauna and flora.
