Description: This is an another unique example of a 1935 Canada Silver Dollar designed by Emanuel Hahn. Hahn was known for his creation of a number of iconic war memorials and was therefore invited by Canadas Department of Finance to discuss the design of a new silver coin that would commemorate the silver jubilee of the reign of King George V (fyi a silver jubilee is the celebration of a 25 year reign). Hahn was intrigued by the request and worked with the Royal Mint in London and the Royal Canadian Mint to truly understand the minting process so that his design would align with the production process. After considerable thought and attention, Kahn designed the 1935 Voyageur coin which captures the most epic and uniquely Canadian landscape: the drawing depicts a voyageur and a First Nations man paddling a birch-bark canoe down the river. In the canoe we see two bundles of fur, being taken down river to sell to the Hudson’s Bay Company, one of the first large trading companies in the New World. We also see the initials EH in the lower left hand corner to honor the aforementioned iconic designer of the times Emanuel Hahn. Behind the canoe and the Voyageurs, off in the distance, we see a depiction of the Northern Lights exemplified by Kahn through a series of vertically sharp lines in the background. On the obverse side we find King George V looking as magnificent and royal as any King that has proceeded his jubilee reign. The 1935 and 1936 are the only 80% silver Canadian Dollars where we see the King crowned. We only see King Charles uncrowned in the following decades. Notable attributes of the 1935 Canadian Silver Dollar.1. 80% silver or 0.60 ounces of silver per coin 2. 1935 was the return of the Canadian silver dollar 3. Only 428k silver dollars were minted in 1935.4. King George V would only appear on the 1935 and 1936 Canadian Silver Dollar being replaced by King Charles on the 1937 edition.5. The 1935 dollars were given special care as they were counted by hand and then placed in special cartons of 20 as to avoid damage caused by friction in transit.
