Description: Up for auction is a beautiful postcard cover from Julius Weinberger in the Jewish ghetto in Shanghai China to SACRA, the Shanghai Ashkenazic Collaborating Relief Association noting his new address. This postcard was sent after the Japanese military authorities ordered all stateless people, which included refugees from Germany, to move into a designated area in Shanghai pursuant to: "the Proclamation concerning Restrictions of Residence and Business of the Stateless Refugees" of February 18, 1943. Upon moving the refugees needed to notify the SACRA of their new address. This postcard did that. Great cancels and markings. In excellent condition. Priced to sell. Postmarked May 18, 1943. Before and during world war 2 many Jews fleeing Nazi persecution took refuge in Shanghai China forming a ghetto. After the war, with the Nazi's defeated, and civil war in China heating up, many sought to go to Palestine or the USA. This is a very scarce item, inter ghetto mail from Shanghai during the war is very rare. Most postal history that survives is mail to and from the Shanghai ghetto before June 1941, when the German invasion of the USSR cut off the land mail route to Europe, and after the war ended in September 1945 and mail service resumed.
