Dust jacket shows the most wear: all hinges broken (at spine & flaps); light chipping around broken hinges, but overall a dust jacket is complete. Loss at bottom edge of dust jacket’s front cover, bottom half of “AY” in “AYN” lacking. Light chipping to edges of dust jacket. Soiling and toning to cream colored rear cover & flaps of dust jacket. Original price found on dust jacket’s front flap’s bottom corner ($3.00). Green cloth boards normally scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at corners. Head and tail of spine bumped. Gilt lettering normally dulled, but overall bright and clean. Previous ownership sticker found at top corner of front paste-down: “Better Gottschalk, Bayside, New York.” Toning on end-pages from dust jacket flaps. Light toning throughout text-black, with some instances of finger soiling or light age-staining. Binding intact. Please see photos. Alice O'Connor (born Alisa Zinovyevna Rosenbaum; 1905 – 1982), better known by her pen name Ayn Rand, was a Russian-born American author and philosopher. She is known for her fiction and for developing a philosophical system she named Objectivism. Born and educated in Russia, she moved to the United States in 1926. After two early novels that were initially unsuccessful and two Broadway plays, Rand achieved fame with her 1943 novel The Fountainhead. In 1957, she published her best-selling work, the novel Atlas Shrugged.
