Description: The Central of Georgia Railway Company (CofGa) was a regional carrier that served the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. Most of its trackage was in Georgia..Lines from Georgia extended to Birmingham, Montgomery and other smaller cities and towns in Alabama, but its sole penetration into Tennessee was a route to Chattanooga. The CofGa, like most smaller railroads, went through a never-ending series of financial troubles, bankruptcies and reorganizations. It also acquired a number of smaller lines over the years. Southern Railway obtained control of the CofGa in the 1960s, and its lines were gradually incorporated into the Southern system or abandoned. Remaining CofGa trackage today is operated by Norfolk Southern. For auction is a passenger train timetable dated Winter 1962-63. 1962-63 Central of Georgia Railway - railroad passenger timetable - Winter Click images to enlarge Description The Central of Georgia Railway Company (CofGa) was a regional carrier that served the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. Most of its trackage was in Georgia, where it served the major cities of Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Macon and Columbus. Lines from Georgia extended to Birmingham, Montgomery and other smaller cities and towns in Alabama, but its sole penetration into Tennessee was a route to Chattanooga. It lists all passenger trains operated by the CofGa, to include its flagship train "Nancy Hanks" which ran between Savannah and Atlanta; the railroad also operated the "Man-O-War" between Columbus and Atlanta, as well as portions of through trains between Florida and the Mid-west -- the City of Miami, the Flamingo, and the Seminole. Schedules are provided for these trains, together with equipment manifests. Timetables are included for freight-only routes, as well as connecting services with other railroads at major interchange points. There are fare tables for coach and Pullman services, as well as a listing of CofGa traffic agents. The timetable has a nice 2-page centerpage map of the CofGa system, plus some great period railroad advertising. This publication measures appx 9x4 inches unopened and contains 12 pages. It appears to be unused and is in excellent condition -- no rips, tears, writing, markings, spills or smears. The binding is secure, with all pages firmly in place. Older CofGa items like this are difficult to find in any condition, and some CofGa railfan will treasure it in his/her collection.
