Description: 1966 LOST GAMES OF NFL FILMSSt. Louis Cardinals vs Philadelphia Eagles Plus: Chicago Bears vs Minnesota Vikings Both in Color on one DVD! This 52-minute DVD has two original NFL “Game of the Week” TV shows: the St. Louis Cardinals (3-0) vs the Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) at Franklin Field, Philadelphia, plus the 0-3 Chicago Bears at Metropolitan Stadium, Minnesota against the 0-3 Minnesota Vikings. Both games were played Sunday October 2, 1966 and both are “lost games” of NFL Films! After being shown only one time as the “Game of the Week” in 1966, neither of these rare games were ever again shown or offered to the public, not even in the NFL Films Special Order Catalog, which was closed forever last April! The scoring starts in the first quarter when Cardinal QB Charley Johnson tosses a 5-yard pass to Billy Gambrell in the end zone, putting St. Louis ahead 7-0. Later in the period, rookie Johnny Roland gets good Cardinal blocking and returns an Eagle punt 86 yards for another score, and St. Louis has a 14-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Early in the second period, Sam Baker connects on a 32-yard FG and the Eagles are on the board (14-3). Later Eagle QB Norm Snead picks up a St. Louis Blitz and quickly shoots a pass to FB Earl Gros, who takes it to within a yard of a TD. Halfback Timmy Brown scores on the next play and the Eagles have closed the gap to 14-10, Cardinals still Leading. Later a Jim Bakken 44-yd FG gives the Cardinals a 17-10 lead heading into intermission. The Redbirds end their first second half drive with a 12-yd Johnson to Gambrell TD pass, and now lead 24-10. Bakken’s 34-yd FG then pushes the lead to 27-10 by the end of the third quarter. In the 4th quarter the Cardinals are blitzing Snead on almost every play, affecting his accuracy even when he is not getting dumped. Then, from his own 4-yard line, Snead is picked off by Jerry Stovall on the Eagle 20 and the Big Red safety scores on the return increasing the score to 34-10 St. Louis. With less than 2 minutes to play, Larry Wilson returns the 5th Cardinal interception of the day 91 yards for another touchdown, making the final score 41-10! Featured in this film are nice closeup shots of St. Louis players on the bench during the game and you’ll see Bill Koman, Bob DiMarco, Don Brumm, Bobby Joe Conrad, Ernie McMillan, Chuck Walker, Jim Bakken, Ken Gray, Charlie Johnson, Rick Sortun, Jerry Stovall and Larry Wilson. Narrated by Lindsey Nelson, the Bears-Vikings contest is another “Lost Game” of NFL Films! Chicago’s Roger LeClerc kicks off to start the game, but with a clipping penalty on the return, the Vikings must start from their own nine-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, leading NFL rusher Bill Brown fumbles on the Viking 17 and the Bears take over! But the Bears are stopped cold by the Minnesota defense and from the 25-yd line LeClerc kicks the ball through the uprights for the ONLY score of the entire first half! Shown is an interception by Dave Whitsell, two fumbles on handoffs by the Bears and a missed FG try by the Vikings’ Fred Cox. In the third quarter, Viking QB Fran Tarkenton engineers an eight-play, 82-yard drive, ending with a 33-yard TD pass to Paul Flatley and the Vikings take the lead, 7-3. The 4th quarter is where the real action begins with a 26-yd Fred Cox FG for the Vikings and a 12-yd FG by LeClerc, making the score 10-6 Minnesota. Later the Bears get the ball back, and starting from the Vikings 45, Sayers goes 17 yards to the Viking 28. Then he gets nine more and it’s second and 1 at the Vikings 19. Rudy Bukich throws a sideline pass to Mike Ditka, who takes it on the 16, breaks two tackles and is not stopped until he reaches the end zone, as the Bears take the lead, 13-10! There are just two minutes left for Tarkenton to move the Vikings within field goal range. After a first down, the Vikings arrive at the Bear 38-yard line and line up for the FG try. But the attempt by Fred Cox is blocked at the line of scrimmage, and picked up by Tarkenton who gives the ball to Cox, who throws an illegal forward pass and the Bears take over the ball to run out the clock. Whew! A ho-hum game at the beginning finishes with a wild ending, and the Bears have their first victory of 1966!DVD will be shipped out by Media Mail.
