Description: 1969 Large Bronze Medal The Society Of Medalists 79th Issue By Bruno Mankowski American Folklore For Your Medal Collection-ME372 Details Description: A nice large and heavy bronze medal from 1969. This is the Society of Medalists seventy nineth issue medal. The medal has the image of Paul Bunyan chopping a tree on the obverse. The image is surrounded by the legend AMERICAN FOLKLORE PAVL BVNYAN. The reverse shows the image the striding figure of John Chapman sowing seeds with a sack over his shoulder and the legend JOPHNNY APPLESEED above it. The medal has a beautiful patinaed surface. The edge of the medal is marked "The Society of Medalists 97th Issue-MAY 1969 BRUNO MANKOWSKI SC. (c)" and "Medallic Art Company N.Y. Bronze". The medal comes in its original box with the original literature that came with it. A great looking and very interesting American art medal to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: 1969. Origin: New York, USA. Artist: Bruno Mankowski. Weight and Size: The medal weighs ~194 grams and is ~73 millimeters in diameter. Maker: Medallic Art Company of New York. References: Alexander SOM 79.1 Marks: Marked "The Society of Medalists 97th Issue-MAY 1969 BRUNO MANKOWSKI SC. (c)" and "Medallic Art Company N.Y. Bronze" along the edge of the medal. There is the marking "B.M.(c) 1969" bottom of the reverse. Condition: The medal is in excellent condition and if it was a coin, I would grade it as mint state uncirculated. The medal has no wear with minimum surface marks or scratches. It has what I view as beautiful golden bronze with deep brown patina representing one of the two surface finishes for this issue. The medal is great looking and is problem free. The box is a bit soiled, has breaks at the corners and along the edges, has markings on the front and back in ink and pencil, and has a white partial label with ink writing on it saying 79. The medal is sandwiched between two pieces of felt like material and the literature pamphlet is intact but lightly soiled. A great medal to add to your collection.
