Description: DETROIT TIGERS vs BALTIMORE ORIOLES NBC SATURDAY AFTERNOON TV BASEBALL "GAME-OF-THE-WEEK" Tiger Stadium, Detroit - Saturday, July 1, 1972 Another rare broadcast treasure is now available on DVD to baseball fans everywhere! The first seven full innings of the original NBC TV broadcast of the baseball "Game-Of-The-Week" of July 1, 1972 is now available for the first time ever on this new 1 hour, 32-minute B & W DVD made directly from the original kinescope! Announcers Curt Gowdy and Tony Kubek call the play-by-play action, and this DVD shows the beginning of the broadcast and pregame show through the bottom of the 7th inning of play! The second-place Orioles are at Tiger Stadium facing the Tigers (later to be A.L. East Champions) in the second game of a four-game series. This O’s-Tiger game is a natural TV match up, with two 20-game winners facing each other (Mickey Lolich vs. Dave McNally), not to mention future HOF’ers Brooks Robinson and Al Kaline in action. The spotlight is on the third basemen, with the Tigers own outstanding glove man Aurelio Rodriquez outshining his counterpart on this particular day, with one dazzling play and more chances than Brooks. It’s a fast-paced game with both hurlers pitching shutout ball thru five innings. Lolich is outstanding, only going to a three-ball count once and walking none. In the 7th, he even singles to right! The most memorable moment of this particular DVD occurs in the bottom of the 6th when Al Kaline slams a 3-2 McNally pitch over the left field screen for the eventual game-winning run! You’ll enjoy Curt Gowdy’s special pre game feature with managers Earl Weaver and Billy Martin arguing over whose team will be in the World Series come fall! Even partial-game TV broadcasts from before the days of home VCRs (1975) are very rare. This is the oldest known segment of any regular season TV broadcast involving the Orioles known to exist, and now you can go back a generation in time and watch this action unfold once again! Orioles: Merv Rettenmund, Bobby Grich, Paul Blair, Brooks Robinson, Don Baylor, Davey Johnson, Andy Etchebarren and Mark Belanger. Tigers: Tony Taylor, Aurelio Rodriquez, Al Kaline, Bill Freehan, Willie Horton, Paul Jata, Mickey Stanley and Ed Brinkman.
