Description: 19th Century French Wrought Iron Table With Slate Top For your consideration is a handcrafted, circa mid-19th century French wrought iron and slate table. The table stands on a forged lyre-shaped trestle base, which is connected with a center twisted stretcher. The top is dressed with a mosaic of slate tiles set inside the rectangular frame. The type of slate used here is characteristic of that which is endemic to the Angers-Trelazé region. It hails from the same quarries which were from which the roofs of Versailles, too, were constructed and maintained. This piece remains quite sturdy and is in excellent condition with a richly patinated finish
