Letter sent to hardware merchants in Macon, Georgia from G W Thomas in Plains of Dura, Sumter County, placing an order to be shipped by train to Americus. The community of Plains of Dura was about one mile north of present day Plains, GA. Plains of Dura was founded in the mid 1830's and was also called Magnolia Springs or Magnolia Village. The ink on the letter is a little faded but the handwriting is legible.
