Description: This fine Northwest Salish or possibly Makah Indian basket does not appear to have ever had a lid and it is subtly woven with natural colored weaving material including chocolate brown/purple and reddish orange that is faded on the outer surface and and more intense on the inner surface. It has a plaited base and features inner knots at about every fifth row of weaving on its sides. The sides of the basket are much more flexible than other Makah baskets. The basket is 5" in diameter (at the top) x 3" tall. It came with a typed description probably from the 1950's a copy of which was added to 4 other baskets in a collection I bought.
