Description: Antique Japanese (C1860) Chado Hibashi Fire Chopstick Bronze Hex Topped 10 " This is an antique Japanese early 1800's (c. 1860's) set ofcast iron hibashi (fire chopsticks). They were used to move burning hot coals from one place to another and also to tend the coals while they burned in a hibachi. Used traditionally in Chado tea ceremony. The handle end is decorated with a bold hexigon shape (traditional shape of protection) while the tapered end is pitted and textured from use.Having been well used yet well loved, these hibashi are slightly different lengths (as seen in pics 5 and 6) they remain in good (functional) condition. They measure 10" long (25.5 cm).
