Description: Carl Schumann Arzberg Bavaria Demi Tasse Cup & Saucer Petite Flowers 1960-1970 Carl Schumann Arzberg Bavaria Demi Tasse Cup & Saucer 1960-1970 Petite Flowers A beautiful Demitasse Cup & Saucer, manufactured in Azberg, Bavaria, GERMANY by CARL SCHUMANN Porcelain Factory, Scalloped & Embossed with Romantic Flowers, Circa 1960-1970 DESCRIPTION: This beautiful set consisting of cup & saucer has the romantic petite flowers pattern with a scalloped & embossed rim highlighted with gold trim. The cup has the embossing with a smooth rim. CONDITION: While these pieces are classified as used, the set is in superb condition. We can find no chips, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. We see no wear on the paint or the gold. See the photos which magnify the piece. The pieces display beautifully and certainly are eye-catching. DIMENSIONS: The cup has a diameter of 2" and a height of 2 1/8". The saucer has a diameter of 4 5/16" and stands 5/8" high. HISTORY/MARKS: The factory was founded in 1881 by Christian Heinrich Schumann in Arzberg, Bavaria after being forced to close his previous pottery (founded 1876) due to the development of a rail road through the factory. Upon his death, the pottery was run by his widow until his youngest son, Carl Schumann I, married in 1896 and assumed management. The company was incorporated in July of 1923. In 1926, Carl’s son, who had been studying in America, assumed leadership after his father’s untimely death at 55. After WWII, the pottery flourished, but never regained its prior success as Japanese products flooded the American & European markets. The business stayed in the family until it was closed in 1994. The mark on this is identified by the website PM&M (porcelainmarksandmore) as mark #3-49 which was used in the 1960-1970 time period.
