Description: The D-55 was first introduced in 1968 as a special top-of-the-range model and was so well received that Guild put it into regular production in 1974. Played by Tommy Smothers on the Smothers Brothers Show in the 1960s, the D-55 enjoyed increasing popularity and longevity over the decades and has also been played by contemporary artists such as Waylon Jennings, Billie Joe Armstrong and David Nail. The 2017 Guild D-55 is the most anticipated return of a Guild acoustic guitar yet and better than ever.The D-55 remains true to the high-quality features of its 1968 predecessor, including a AAA Sitka spruce top, solid Indian rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Internal refinements include raised Adirondack bracing and an improved dovetail neck joint that was hand-fitted to make this generation of D-55 the lightest, loudest and best-sounding yet.The D-55 features Guild's most iconic headstock, which is fully bound and features the Guild "Peak and Shield" inlay over a figured ebony overlay. The matching ebony fingerboard is also fully bound and features Guild's iconic abalone and mother-of-pearl V-Blocks and a multi-line Railroad Track inlay on the bass and treble sides. The D-55's fingerboard sits on a mahogany neck with a beautiful walnut center seam that runs the entire length of the neck to the headstock. Available in Natural or Antique Burst, the D-55's nitrocellulose lacquer finish is hand sprayed for minimal thickness and maximum resonance that only gets better with age. An LR Baggs pickup system is available as an option.
