Description: You are bidding on a set of SIX Union soldiers of the FAMOUS Irish Brigade, which I hand panted in 54 mm to represent this heroic Brigade during the Battle Of Antietam on September 12th,1862, which was the bloodiest day of the War! The Irish Brigade had won accolades for their heroism at Fredericksburg due to their famous charge, and they were no less valiant at Antietam! They arrived on the battle as from a higher perpective from an flanking angle on the famed Sunken Road on the Battlefield, and were able to inflict a punishing fire from the flank, which caused the Conferate position to be vacated due to the high casualties they began to take! The set includes SIX figures from Imex and Accurate Union infantry figures, both manufacturers who are toy soldier suppliers in Great Britain! The two companies made American Civil War soldiers for most of the nineties, but discontiued them a few years, so they are no longer produced, but for a while, the same sculptor was used to make the prototype figures, so the figures work very well together! Included in the group are the FEATURED Irish Brigade color bearer kneeling with the TWO DIFFERENTLY POSED standing firing pose, one kneeling firing pose, and the officer firing his Colt Army .45 revolver with one arm steadying his aim, and one unfortunate kneeling soldier who has just been wounded and is dropping his rifle ..Most of the figures are dresseded in "sack" coats, so named as the fit like a "sack", with few sizes, just small and large, with sky blue trousers to go with the dark blue kepis and jackets! The officer wears a shorter slightly longer jacket, tailored a little more carefully than the typical infantry soldier's jackets! Belts, straps and and shoes were normally blackened leather, while canteens were usually covered in blue cloth to protect from heat and reduce the possible glare of the metal canteen without a cover, held by a cotton strap.. Their weapons and equipment I painted to accurately depict them as they would have appeared during the Civil War! And keep in mind I will combine shipping for two or more sets that you win in the same week! After hand painting all of my soldiers and accessories with quality acrylic paints (bright trim is done in enamel), I overcoat them with acrylic flat finish to give them a museum type finish as well as giving them a protective coat over the painted details, and sign and date the bases! This highly detailed and famous Irish Brigade Infantry set would make an interesting looking display in most anyone's Civil War display or 54 mm toy soldier collection!! And with the 150th Anniversary of this momentous event in our Nation's history having just concluded, a neat way to display your remembrance of the Civil War I've hand painted over 22,650 soldiers for collectors in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and even Japan in the last twelve years! My Civil War background began as a child on my first trip to Gettysburg, over 50 years ago, and I suit up in my complete Union Artillery sergeant's uniform to teach the Civil War to my late wife's 5th Grade class each year!
