Description: untitled Harry Judson Allen 1940s Vtg Impressionist Still Life For Gumps San Francisco This is a beautiful vintage oil on art board painting by the noted California artist Harry Judson Allen(1871-1966). This painting is in good original condition. I've provided two pictures of this painting in full because I couldn't quite get the colors right with my cell phone camera(the shot at the bottom), the marquee picture's color is very correct. The one thing I should note is, there are a lot of dark "specks" of what appear to be some foreign substance on this painting. These specks are as welded to the surface as the paints, and I believe are paint as well. This appears to be an intended effect by the artist. Also, they really aren't terribly noticeable when viewing this painting from 6 feet away or more. They seem to blend nicely and add a subtle textural quality. This painting, frame and all measures 21 3/8" x 17 1/4" and is ready to hang on the wall. There is a sticker on the back for Gumps San Francisco as well as what appears to be an original price of $63.90. Harry Judson Allen(1871-1966)was born in Chicago Ill and studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago. He moved to California in 1915. He worked for Gumps of San Francisco as head of their Interior Design Department for many years and also painted in his leisure. Mr. Allen exhibited his work in the 40s and 50s in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is listed in Hughes, Artists of California as well as Davenports. He was noted for his still life paintings. He died in Contra Costa County, CA. Please email me if you have any questions or need more pictures. Thanks BE SURE TO CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS \ \ -\ IMPORTANT!!! I strive to receive 5/5!!! I do not charge any handling fees. You only pay the cost of the actual shipping. If I could afford to offer free shipping I would, but most of my profits are small and I really just can't swing it. Unfortunately, because of ebay's new Detailed Seller Ratings system, a 5=A and a 4=F. I say this because even though you may think you're giving me a "Good" score, if I or any other seller just receives 4s we will be thrown off of ebay. That's they're new system. I really do strive to give each of my customers the best service possible, but also, I specialize in selling rare, unusual and hard to find items. The very items that helped build ebay into the empire that it is. When all of us little sellers are gone there's going to be nothing left to buy on ebay but a bunch of Buy.com overstock. Many of my items only wind up costing $6.80 to ship. Heavier items will cost more. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS do need to realize that the USPS calculator is often inaccurate with international shipping rates. So I do sometimes add a couple of dollars to the cost to cover myself. I guarantee everything I sell. If I make a mistake I will always give you a full refund. Please do not bid unless you intend to buy this item!!! I will ship internationally, but I will not falsify documents so as to help you avoid customs!!! I accept Paypal. All items are guaranteed to be as described, if I have made a mistake I will gladly refund your money, minus the cost of shipping. However, I go to great lengths to provide correct measurements and nice big pictures of every detail. it is your responsibility as a buyer to ask any and all questions prior to placing a bid. If you fail to do so, or the piece doesn't fit properly, I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do. I usually ship upon payment via USPS. You, as the buyer, are responsible for the cost of shipping. IIf I can find a box that will work to safely ship your item I will pass the savings on to you. I strongly suggest you also insure your purchase as I cannot be responsible for damage or loss through shipping. If you require special arrangements or shipping through UPS, please allow additional time. Also, I charge a $10 handling fee for UPS shipping, i charge this fee because i do not want to ship via UPS. The only exception to this would be when I'm selling a heavier item which must be shipped via UPS. In that case it will be specifically stated in the auction description. I almost always leave positive feedback, unless there's some extreme problem. However, I sometimes don't get around to leaving the feedback for a week or so. Please be patient. Please email me if you have any questions. Here's a link...
