Description: HAWAIIAN AIRLINES Original Vintage 1950s Luggage Hotel Travel Label Sticker New Old Stock [NOS]. This is an original label, from the mid-1950s, obtained in a souvenir packet from an estate sale that also contained all the other labels we are currently listing. Size is 3½" X 3". Red, White and Blue, with the design featuring a juxtaposition of an outrigger sailboat in the foreground, palm trees blowing in a stiff breeze, and a twin-engine propeller airplane zooms along utilizing the tailwind. Bottom left corner bent under slightly, short diagonal crease at other bottom corner; small spot interrupting plane exhaust due to a similar label previously sticking to it right at that point.Over 90% of original gum still intact, some places on the back where it had dried and flaked away long ago. ------------------- NOTES ON COMPANY HISTORY: Early years (1929–1984) Hawaiian Airlines initiated air service in 1929 as Inter-Island Airways utilizing a Bellanca CH-300, [which was restored in 2009 by Hawaiian to flying condition!] Inter-Island Airways (Hawaiian: Hui Mokulele Piliʻāina), the forerunner of the airline which is now known as Hawaiian Airlines, began operations on October 6, 1929, with a Bellanca CH-300 Pacemaker, providing short sightseeing flights over Oʻahu. Scheduled service began a month later using Sikorsky S-38s with a flight from Honolulu to Hilo, via intermediary stops on Molokaʻi and Maui. On October 1, 1941, the name was changed to Hawaiian Airlines when the company phased out the older Sikorsky flying boats. The first Douglas DC-3s were added to the fleet in August 1941, some examples remaining in operation until final retirement in November 1968.
