IBM NetVista Pentium4 Windows Me Gaming PC

Description: The story of this system: What you see here is a highly customized IBM Netvista commonly found in offices all over the world. Well built, and stable are synonymous with IBM especially, before the old out their desktop line to Lenovo, although Lenovo’s are mostly great machines even today. My main modern gaming PC is a Lenovo that I got during the GPU shortage, which I haven’t seen the need to replace yet and haven’t had a single problem with it. In addition I choose Windows Me for this build, which has a bad reputation, but this build proves what many IT pros, and enthusiasts have known for some time now, and that is that most of the instability is due to factors outside of the Windows Me kernel itself. Bad drivers, driver incompatibilities, immature features that Windows Me added like system restore, were ultimately what was responsible for most Windows ME crashes. This system has a Radeon 9600 with customized drivers from a group called Omega which was known for optimizing factory drivers during this era. Also, a tried and true Sound Blaster Live for audio. Combined with the rock-solid Intel 845 chipset this thing is rock solid from a hardware perspective. I’ve tested several games, no crashes. I’ve run a stress test and left it running for many days without rebooting, and then went right into gaming with no problems. Of course, it’s hard to guarantee anything especially when you start installing your own software, but this thing as rock solid of a 9x gaming machine as your likely to ever find. Ultimately you can expect that it will be more than a typical “Here is a thing don’t know if it works” type of auctions, but less than “This is SUPER rare OMG I know what these are worth” type of auctions. · Q: Why does shipping seem high? o A: Computers need adequate packaging in order to survive shipping. Many retro systems have become brittle over the years and are that much more prone to breakage. If you encounter problems while installing software remove the most recent software you installed and be sure to reboot after doing so. Also be sure to reboot each time you install something new. That way if you have a problem you’ll know what it was that caused the problem. If you still have issues you can e-mail me, but I do not warranty the software or hardware. I recommend shutting the machine down when not using it. The power management features of these early versions of Windows were also known to be problematic.
