Boards are clean with moderate sunning to spine. The flat-back three-piece binding is in natural-finish cloth, with brown sides and black spine,stamped in gold with a title lettered by A. Tassos. Binding is tight and square. Previous owner's small bookplate with typed name affixed to first blank page. There is a light crack the length of the gutter at the illustration preceding Book One. No loose or shaken pages. Otherwise, pages are unblemished with no tears, chips, marks or creases. Slipcase: Brown paper-covered boards with black paper on top and bottom and with moderate marginal sunning. Otherwise, very minor shelfwear. No cracks or tears to seams. Synopsis: The Anabasis is the story of the march to Persia to aid Cyrus, who had put together an army of Greek soldiers to take the throne from Artaxerxes, and the return of the Greeks. This occurred between 401 B. C. and March 399 B. C. The expedition was recorded by Xenophon, a Athenian Scholar and student of Socrates, who accompanied the group. Xenophon was elected officer after the death of their original leaders. His work, The Anabasis, (meaning The March Up), is one of the classics of ancient literature.
