Mehano Chessie FA-2 # 4142

Description: Along with a box of almost throw-away N scale items is this engine with the manufacturer’s designation RSO ATEST Z-74 3 2 2 and Yugoslavia. Just now (14-Jul-2022) have installed a new set of traction tires and gingerly applied lubrication for the wheel gears. Don't quite understand the RSO ATEST Z-74 3 2 2 on the engine's front truck but there it is. This engine is an ALCO FA-2. Could be one of the earlier engines made by the MEHANO folks. This engine is rated C2 with some restoration required. It seems to run well and the shell free of any damage and the internal light works. I have been updated! A highly knowledgeable N Scale engineer has informed me: "RSO ATEST Z-74322" is just part of a code indicating it passed radio non-interference testing. That was made by Mehanotehnika (later shortened to Mehano) of Yugoslavia. In the U.S. their items were sold by various companies; AHM/IHC, Life-Like/Varney, Model Power, etc. And that is NOT a Fairbanks Morse C-Liner. It is an Alco FA-2. Unfortunately, I have none of the original packaging. Got video! My sister's cat is named Chessie. Looks a lot like the cat in their advertisement of several years ago.
