An air gap should be left of about 2.5mm from the shoulder, before the cartridge angles inward. Once filled, the cartridge opening may be covered with a protective film and agitated with the finger pressed over the opening. The syringe may used again for refilling your empty cartridges from an inkwell. Montblanc Blue-Black Permanent ink cartridges are suitable for pens accepting the 'short standard international' size.
