Description: This wealth object is known as Omak or Omaak. and is made from a series of bamboo sticks (49) attached parallel to each other and suspended by chord and worn around the neck. Each stick represents an amount of wealth in pigs or shells etc. The ceremony where they are used is called Moga and if worn around the neck suggested the owner having great prestige and indicated he was a 'big man'. This example was collected in the 1970's by Missionaries working for the Uniting Church in Australia and were stationed at Finschhafen in the Morobe Province of PNG. It measures 26cm x 10cm.
