The map shows railroads, horse-drawn streetcar lines, identified with dashed lines, as well as public buildings, other points of interest. and the National Road, the historic first road built from the eastern seaboard into the heartland of the United States. It passed through Indianapolis and crossed the White River just north of the City Water Works. This route was later designated as U.S. 40. Among the other specific named places and features are the United States Arsenal, Stock Yards Hotel, Deaf and Dumb Asylum, State Fair Grounds, City Gas Works, Blind Asylum, Military Reservatory, and more. The image area measures 33 x 26 cm [13" x 10¼"], with generous margins on all sides. This map was published by George Franklin Cram, Chicago in 1897. It is an original, authentic antique map, not a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be genuine.
