Description: Normal 0 14 false false false IT X-NONE X-NONE Fire-enamelled copper bowl, by Paolo De Poli (Padua, Italy,1905-96), 1970s, ∅ 26 cm, h 8 cm Embossed copper, and enamelled at 800 °C. Paolo De Poli (Padua, Italy, 1905 – 1996). After attending the Pietro Selvatico Institute of Art, De Poli studied painting in Verona with the artist Guido Trentini. After an initial interest in oil painting – one of his paintings was exhibited at the Venice International Art Biennale in 1926 – hr gradually became interested in enamel on copper and silver. He participated in the International Exhibition of Sacred Art in Padua, 1931. In the following years, he took part at the Venice International Art Biennales in the decorative arts section, the VI Milan Triennale in 1936, and Universal Expositions in Brussels (1935) and Paris (1937). A fruitful collaboration in 1939 with the great architect and creator of magazine “Domus” Gio Ponti allowed him to large decorative panels for the University of Padua’s lecture lecture hall, celebrating its founders in 1222, the Podestà Rusta and Bishop Giordano. After the war, he participated in exhibitions around the world, from New York to Paris. He also decorated large ocean liners such as the Conte Biancamano (1949), Michelangelo and Raphael (1962). In 1967, he was present at the Montreal Expo. While in 1974, he decorated the Palace of Labor in Rome. In 1984, a major retrospective exhibition was dedicated to him at the Palazzo della Ragione in Padua. “…De Poli’s enamels are on beaten copper, drawn and modelled from 2 mm. sheets. He Obtains the beauty of surface by laying on the enamel in several strata, each stratum being baked at a temperature of 900 degrees.”; from Gio Ponti, De Poli – Enamels, Milan, 1958 Ciotola in rame smaltato a fuoco, Paolo De Poli (Padova, 1905 - 1996), 1970s, ∅ 26 cm, h 8 cm Rame sbalzato, e smaltato a 800 °C. Paolo De Poli (Padova, 1905 – 1996).
