This drought tolerant plant is an evergreen shrub with leathery green leaves and silvery undersides. Sweet, edible flowers appear May through June and the kiwi-sized fruit has waxy green skin and soft succulent flesh similar to a pear in texture. The green fruit develops a sweet fragrance even before it fully ripens in the fall. Plants need to be subjected to cool night temperatures from the 20's- 50's for successful flowering. Pineapple Guava tastes like a cross between pineapple and guava with a hint of mint. Cut the fruit in half and scoop the pulp with a spoon for a delicious treat. Fruiting starts 3-5 years after planting. Although somewhat self-fertile, we recommend planting two for best pollination. Acca is remarkably pest-and disease-resistant.
