The 1920s were a great time of beautiful coin designs around the world as art-deco took off and classic greek themes found their way back onto many coins around the world. Portugal had some great designs and this is just one of them. Here is a very nicely detailed 1928 1 escudo issued from the “Republica Portuguese” with a classic lady liberty shoulders and bust right design on the obverse with date to the right. On the reverse is a neat shield within a designed circle and wreath above the value. The edge of the coin is reeded, is 26.7mm in diameter and weighs 7.5gm, so about the same size as a US quarter dollar. A beautiful design and a series of Lady Libertys from various countries is a nice collection to put together! FREE SHIPPING to within the US.
