Description: Gold ore specimens from the famous Johannesburg District in Gauteng Province are very rare! I have ever only seen a handful of specimens offered ever. This miniature specimen came from the historic late 1800s-early 1900s stock of Krantz, one of the first mineral dealers ever. It has a number label and a label with the vein name attached to the specimen in historic parchment -type paper. I checked out the specimen under a hand lens and didnt spot any native gold but there is plenty of auriferous pyrite cemented all throughout. There might be some native gold but can't guarantee that. However, this is an amazing example of the typical metasedimentary hosted gold-bearing quartz veins from a classic locality. Absolutely amazing historic piece from the world's largest gold deposit! Krantz even took the time to meticulously polish the cut face of the specimen. Really nice specimen! 7.7x5.5x1.3 cm
