Description: Very early Wrought iron Hearth or Pipe Tongs. Rare early example in size and form... Rare early developing form. I'd date this one most likely from 1730-1750. Measurements in pics, part of the description. The earliest example in the collection. In old polish, not cleaned. Traces of old black paint. So very difficult to find... a very nice honest 18th century example. No maker marks, beautiful workmanship. You can truly still feel the blacksmith's hammer on these early pieces. Nice honest patina. These are very rare and seldom seen in this early construction form. I've never seen another this early of these in my 50 years of adding to the collection. Maryland acquired many many years ago, from my private collection. Weight pre package is almost a full 1.5 pounds of iron weight in its earliest American form. Very Early constructed example. I am a 3rd generation early American hearthware and utilitarian collector. My pieces range in age from American colonial first settlement period to roughly 1840. In the coming weeks, I will be listing many rare and hard to find pieces. Thank you for looking, and happy bidding. Shipping USPS Priority. Please ask questions prior to bidding. Payment within a few days of auction close, thank you.
