Description: Display condition, armor and shield included. In the wake of a landmark decision between Mattel and Remco, the doors were blown wide open for He-Man knockoff action figures. Many companies had seen the success of the Masters of the Universe and wanted a slice of the pie. While a few dabbled in knocking off the exaggerated bodybuilder aesthetic in the early years, the case that stated that Mattel had no copyright over the body emboldened many more. Thus, the years that followed were full of cheap, accessible barbarian-styled toys that only had a passing resemblance to the market leader. By 1983, Sungold began producing the Galaxy Warriors toy line with great success. Soon after, another Hong Kong company, Sewco, entered the scene with the Galaxy Fighters. While both toy lines were knock-offs, Sewco’s new toy line had many more similarities to Sungold’s than Mattel’s. Sewco has been in business for over thirty years, operating out of Hong Kong. While many have questioned whether Sewco was directly related to Sungold, there is no direct relationship between the two. More likely than not, the company took advantage of Hong Kong’s less stringent copyright standards when it created the Galaxy Fighters. To help the Galaxy Fighters make it into stores, Madison from Hackensack, New Jersey provided distribution services. However, another company, Soldico, distributed the toys in the Italian market. With the assistance of these two toy lines, the Galaxy Fighters made it to discount stores around the world.
