Rudy Vallee (July 28, 1901 – July 3, 1986) He was an American singer, actor, and radio host. He was one of the first modern pop stars of the teen idol type. He had a thin, wavering tenor voice and seemed more at home singing sweet ballads than jazz songs. But his singing, suave manner, and boyish good looks attracted attention, especially from young women. Vallee was given a recording contract, and in 1928 he started performing on the radio. His first records were made in 1928 for Columbia's low-priced labels Harmony, Velvet Tone, and Diva. Vallee started recording for Victor in 1929 and had a long recording career. He was popular in radio, films, tv and was active into the 1980’s Vallee died of cancer at his home on July 3, 1986 age 85. Included in Encore 2 are his Hit of the Week Series that were made in 1932. They are very difficult to find in playable condition as they were pressed in Durium plastic backed by cardboard. The heavy tone arms of 1932 could easily damage the playing surface. This group of recordings includes his records when he was at the peak of popularity. All selections were digitally restored by Vintage-Recordings New digital restoration from original source material in 2023.
