Description: Here's a great SALZ BROTHERS pen, a filigree overlay pen in 1/40 18K gold filled metal. Salz Bros was in business by 1909 an and they made filigree pens early in their history. I would have dated this pen much earlier, but I believe the base material is plastic rather than hard rubber, so I'll put the estimate to the mid-late '20's. The pen is 5-1/4" long and it has the appearance of never having been used. I tested the lever filler (with water) and it operates perfectly and shows no color from being used. The overlay is marked at the base of the barrel 1/40 -18K. The clip is marked with the circular SB logo, SALZ BROS, NY. and the lever is marked SALBRO. The metal and plastic are absolutely mint. The nib is marked THE, SALZ, 14K, 4. It is a fine point with good iridium and straight tines .. and, excellent flexibility. Outstanding pen.
