Description: Offered is a World War One production United States military issue Model 1907 leather sling made for use with the 1903 Springfield or Model 1917 rifles. This will also fit an M1 Garand (the M1907 was used extensively with the Garand during World War Two) and was used on Trench Shotguns as well. This sling is maker marked G & K for manufacture by Graton & Knight of Worcester, Mass. It also retains the inspectors initials (WJD) stamped in the leather beneath the date, which is 1918. The claws are blackened brass and each of the claw rivets are tight, with the exception of one, which is missing the bottom. The missing rivet bottom will not affect fit or display (slings of this age should almost never be used to carry a rifle and, virtually without exception, are proper only for display). Both original sewn keepers are present. The sling is offered as pictured shows only normal wear and cracking, particularly given its age and service. This sling retains a beautiful color. These slings have become difficult to find, as the repros and fakes greatly outnumber the originals. Overall, a scarce and desirable original maker marked and dated World War One M1907 sling that will display well on your rifle and is priced right given the missing rivet bottom.
