Description: This listing is for a (roughly) 1880s Antique hand assembled scrapbook /Journal / ephemera assemblage, belonging to and made by Ella M Aimes, a founding member of the New York Press association and great grandmother of John Aimes Jassen. It contains a detailed collection of newspaper articles she found important & some illustrations assembled together almost like a book. A great view into pre & post civil war life from the perspective of a woman. They are pasted on top of an antique ledger from the 1830s from the Bentley legal co- who dealt with Supreme Court Cases. Many of these articles, accounts, stories, jokes, and other printed word likely are forgotten and may no longer exist in other places due to the obscurity of some of the newspapers used. Some articles may even be by famous authors- I have not have time to check it all. This is just one of 4 scrapbooks / diary combos by Ella I will be listing- see my other listings! The historical importance and interesting subject matter is excellent for many collectors- as far as I know it’s the only one like it. It provides an important look at the time & its events that may be forgotten if not preserved. It makes this a perfect staple piece for your collection, one your friends definitely won’t have! A great collectors item, for use display gifting or decor. It is in good condition, with typical wear from age & many readings. Has some past water damage, in the last century or so, which has seemingly stabilized. Has that usual old book smell from sitting in a box waiting to be cataloged in the previous owners collection.
