Description: We go to estate sales regularly and come across a wide array of unique and rare items. We add to our growing online inventory daily. We pick up new items from all over the world and all over the US. We also have a growing customer wish list. If you'd like to, feel free to add us to your saved seller's list and let us know what you collect and/or need. We’d be honored to add you to our customer wish list.We ask what we consider to be a fair price for anything we sell and understand that our idea of a fair price may be someone else's 'that's too much' price. If that's the case, feel free to make us an offer and will consider it. We also have sales regularly, so check back often. There is always a Sale by TheBay!We bid on several lots of items of an online estate sale/auction for a lady who had passed away by the name of Mary Clemon Payne back in 2018. Mary Payne was the Executive Secretary for the Stone Mountain Memorial Association when it was formed to run Stone Mountain in 1958. Some of you may recall one of the trains that ran at Stone Mountain that was named The Mary Payne Train. It has since been replaced of course, but the park named it after her in her honor for her years of dedication to the park. You can read Mary's obituary online to learn more about the wonderful woman she was.Mary had a plethora of incredible Stone Mountain memorabilia and we were able to obtain quite a few very cool items, many of which are certainly one of a kind. We will be listing some items over the coming days, so if you're into Stone Mountain collectibles, we guarantee you that we'll be listing some items you are all but certain to never see for sale again. Now onto the item for sale. For sale is a group of five guest lists from the Lunch on the Confederate Memorial carving on Stone Mountain that was held on March 23, 1970.We only included two of the pages of the guests from the press in the pictures above, but there are three more guest lists. This event was held before the progress on the carving was unveiled at an official ceremony that was held on May 9 of the same year. This unique piece of Stone Mountain history includes five pages of the guest lists for the press (TV, radio and newsprint) and the members of the Stone Mountain Memorial Association who attended the event. These five pages include a total of 59 individuals. 40 of them, on three pages, were from the press and each one included what radio or tv station, publication, newspaper, etc. they represented. The other two guest lists were the invited guests and the members of the SMMA. These are separate guest lists, but the eight on the guest list match 8 of the 11 on the SMMA list. Many of the guests/SMMA members were former Georgia government officials. The names on this list include Commissioner of Agriculture Thomas Irvin, Secretary of State Ben W. Fortson Jr and Attorney General Arthur K. Bolton, among others. Please note, these guest lists are not the originals, but copies that Mary created after the event was held. We wish they were the originals signed by everyone, but they are still extremely rare, if not one of a kind, and certainly worth more than the garbage can. The lists were stapled together at the top left when we got them, so they will come the same way.Mary Payne wrote 'Press Luncheon on Carving Guests' at the top right corner of the first page, as shown in the pictures above. One page of guest list from the press doesn't have a date written at the top, but all of the other four pages have March 23, 1970 written at the top. We know the luncheon was held on that date because we have the program, menus and several photos from the event. We included the menu for this event as well since we got several of them in this collection. There is also another unique bit of history that goes well with the guest list from the luncheon in 1970. It is the guest list of the luncheon that the original person chosen to carve the memorial, Gutzon Borglum, had in 1924 when the head of Robert E. Lee was unveiled. You can tell that there was at least on photo from this event that this list of guests points out in the photo(s), but unfortunately, they were not included in the stuff we got. PLEASE NOTE: We have several photographs and other historical items from Stone Mountain. Feel free to take a look and as always, we're happy to combine shipping. These items will be shipped in a padded envelope via insured ground advantage with the USPS. We put all our items that ship in padded envelopes in between cardboard for extra protection during shipping. Thanks for looking and God bless!
