Determined to honor their late friend's memory, the duo came up with the idea of having their favorite bass players step in for a song or two. An astounding range of bassists answered the call and the result is the far-flung 2-CD set THE DEEP END, VOL.1.Jack Bruce appears on the Cream-like dirge "Fool's Moon," while funkateers Flea and Larry Graham respectively slap and pop on "Down And Out In New York City" and the Band Of Gypsys-flavored "Life On The Outside". Other memorable moments include the shimmering contributions made by Mike Watt and Jerry Cantrell on CCR's "Effigy," the gorgeous duet with R&B legend Little Milton on the uplifting "Soulshine," and the jazzy instrumental tango Haynes has with John Scofield on "Sco-Mule." The late Woody himself is represented on a scorching version of Grand Funk's 'Sin's A Good Man's Brother" recorded months before his death.
