Description: The silk route and the diamond path: Esoteric Buddhist art on the trans-Himalayan trade routes purchased at an estate sale, I have zero personal knowledge of usage, ownership, home conditions, environmental conditions, prior owner's habits, pets or other history, sold as is Klimburg-Salter, Deborah E., profusely illustrated in b&w and color. With a bibliography and a glossary of Sanskrit and other names and terms. Designed by Jack Carter. This is the catalogue for the important 1982 traveling Museum exhibition of the monastic arts of Central Asia that developed along the trans-Himalayan Silk Route. Buddhist bronze, stone, and terra cotta sculptures; paintings; and ritual objects dating from the 7th century to the present comprise this exhibition of over 130 rare works. Development of this distinctive religious art is traced along the trade routes connecting the western Himalayas and adjacent regions. Objects are supplemented by photo murals, audio, and video installations. Monasteries were the religious, economical, and cultural centers of the trade route known as the "Silk Route." The type of Buddhism practiced in these was "Diamond Path" Buddhism. A traveling exhibition, organized by the Wight Gallery, University of California at Los Angeles, it includes national treasures and other objects from 35 museums and private lenders worldwide.
