The color film traces the development and history of aircraft carriers used by the United States Navy. Aircraft that have been used by the Navy, such as the Grumman A-6 Intruder and McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, also are featured. (28 min) - THE NUCLEAR NAVY This historic U.S. Navy film from 1967 with narrator Frank Blair, tells the story of the development of nuclear power for the Navy by the Atomic Energy Commission. Admiral Hyman Rickover, the "Father of the Nuclear Navy," is also briefly shown. The film includes a brief history of nuclear reactors and shows the development and activities of the submarines USS Nautilus, USS Seawolf, USS Sargo and USS Seadragon, the Polaris missile boats, and the cruiser USS Long Beach and the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise.
