It is the only reference that covers US APOs in Panama after the Canal Zone was turned over to Panama; by treaty, the US was allowed to retain some bases until the end of 1999. This well researched and heavily illustrated book covers APOs from 34001 to 34061 at Albrook and Howard Air Force Bases, Corozal, Quarry Heights, Rodman Naval Station (NAVSTA Panama Canal) and Forts Amador, Clayton, Davis, Gulick and Sherman as well as the Panama Canal Commission administration building and (for short time periods) at refugee facilities at the Empire Range. Matt starts with the history of these military post offices (MPOs) and the unit responsible for them, the 24th Air Postal Squadron of the US Air Force, the facilities, postal rates, mail handling, interference from Panama, types of cancelling devices and other markings, and then each office and literally hundreds of illustrated postmarks and markings.
