USS Los Angeles: a 658' helium-filled rigid airship built by Germany in 1922-23. She was built with 24 aluminum vertical rings each 32 feet apart and had 5 external 400 hp V-12 water cooled inline gasoline engines. The rings were held in place by an aluminum keel running the length of the airship. The Los Angeles was decommissioned in 1932 and dismantled in 1939 at Lakehurst, NJ . The USN lost four rigid frame airships to storm damage in the 1930s and closed down the airship program in 1939. Cover franked with 4 cent USN Aviation stamp # 1185 and a 55 cent flag stamp. Seller also has airship covers listed on e-bay for the Graf Zeppelin, Hindenburg, USS Macon, 2 USN Blimps, USS Los Angeles, USS ZMC-2, LTA Pathfinder and USS Shenandoah. Also the JLENS Aerostat.
