Description: Helping shape the paradigms of congress to revise the Articles of confederation, George Washington would attend a meeting that summer of March 1787 that became known to history as the “Constitutional Convention”. His desire ultimately to precedence wanting to see the young United States succeed. He was unanimously elected the president of the convention what began as a meeting to revise the Articles of Confederation to create a brand new federal government. Washington helping to balance the interests of the colonies; establishing itself as the official colonial liaison to Great Britain. The congress became the effective national government of the country formulating diplomacy on behalf of the United States. Washington had always served as a truly unifying figure in the often bitter and divisive politics during this period. September 1787 Washington at the helm of the convention finishing crafting the New United States Constitution. Washington was a stong proponent and believer of the new Constitution. By 1788 enough states had ratified the new constitution and the creation of the new federal government began. Washington was then unanimously elected as the first president of the United States in the Spring of 1787. Washington’s achievements from 1783 to 1789was short-lived and filled with constant attention to the establishment of the United States. Serving from 1789 to 1797 at President and spending his final retirement at Mount Vernon from 1797 until his death in December of 1799. Always willing to place the interests of the United States of America before his own, George Washington was well deserved in earning the name for posterity as “The Father of Our Country”.
