Description: Early Eames Time Life Chair (ES105). This beautiful example of the very rare and sought after "Lobby Lounge Chair" this is notes but the fixed angled seating position and wider dimensions overall, whereas early "office" chairs are noticably narrower. This extension in with makes the chair wonderfully comfortable and welcoming to sit it. This chair is finished in it's original black leather all the way around, most have been reupholstered or need to be. They tend to go first around the arm rests and then the rear upper backing of the top segment. This chair is in wonderful condition and would make a great addition to anyone's home, office, studio, or living space in general. Exceptionally comfortable this chair is famed for being the chair that chest master Bobby Fischer requested for his final mental match against Russian master Spassky. Which is one reason why it's nicknames the Fischer-Spassky chair. This chair is not without it's flaws however, and it's it's nearly 60 years it has been repaired. There of course the natural patina and creases that are to be expected with any leather, furniture or otherwise of this vintage but overall there are no massive gouges, scrapes, or cuts. The one area of repair that I can find seems to be on the lower back side, as pictured, it seems to be where the chair could've been repaired do to a mounting point or thread, however, it is hardly noticable and most definitely does not effect the comfort or structural stability of the chair. An adaptation of the specially commissioned 'Lobby Chairs' for the Time Life building in New York, the 1960 release of the Lounge Chair version brought this wonderful design to homes, offices, conference rooms and lobbies all over the US and beyond. The design has had numerous names over the years including theTime Life Lounge Chair(from the building it was commissioned to go in), the Lobby Chair (the intended space of the original commission) and even the Eames Executive Chair Group. Any one of these terms can still represent the design today so it is worth remembering them all. Generally speaking however, theEames Time Life Lobby Chairtends to tick the most boxes in terms of name. The conceptual commissioned pieces installed into the Lobby of the Time Life building were grandiose, wide framed and set into a laid back position. The design had after all, attempted to re-create the comfort of theEames Lounge Chair, but without the size. The marketed versions of the Eames Time Life Lobby Chairwere tweaked ever so slightly and initially released in two Lounge variations. Model 675 closely resembled the conceptual Lobby Chairs and were wide, laid back lounge chairs with a swivel movement. Model 3475 however had adjustability of height and angle and was slightly thinner. Herman Miller also released an uprightdesk chairversion a year later in 1961. The success of the Alu Group can also be seen in the design with the beautiful upholstery against polished Alu frame and sides. What a lot of people don't know however is that the chair actually has a plywood skeleton unseen to the eye. The Lounge versions of the chair were eventually discontinued, sometime into the 1990's This chair is by no means flawless, I have tried to note any flaws or repairs as such. But, it is a beautiful example of an iconic chair that will remain classic and comfortable for many decades to come.
