Vintage 1976 Mego Starsky and Hutch Action Figures

Description: Starsky & Hutch is a 1970s American Buddy Cop Show which aired for 92 episodes on ABC from 1975–79.It centered around two Southern California plain clothes police officers: streetwise Brooklyn native Sgt. David Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser), and quiet, intellectual Minnesotan Sgt. Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson (David Soul). Under the radio call sign "Zebra Three'', the duo patrolled the streets of fictional Bay City in Starsky's iconic red Ford Gran Torino with that awesome white vector stripe. Their superior was the no-nonsense Capt. Harold Dobey (Bernie Hamilton), while their main contact in the city's criminal underworld was Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas), a police snitch who ran his own bar. Huggy Bear was so popular with fans that the producers considered spinning off a Huggy Bear series, but this ultimately fell through. Mego released their Starsky and Hutch toy line in 1976, based on the immensely popular television show. The Starsky and Hutch Series toy line featured five basic characters, with the classic television interpretations of each. Offered were the classic characters, Huggy Bear the streetwise informant, Doby the gruff police captain, Chopper the generic bad guy, and of course the title characters, Starsky and Hutch themselves. Since Mego stepped up and paid big money for the Starsky and Hutch license, they could now go crazy with designing the figures and getting them just right. The head sculpts for the figures are really beautiful, with a lot of attention to likeness details. In addition to the figures, Mego also released an amazing looking and classic red and white striped Ford Gran Torino car for the title characters to roll around in. This offering are three of the original action figures from 1976. Both Starsky and Hutch are very good shape considering the age and are tight. Huggy Bear is also tight but one knee joint has been replaced with an aftermarket pin and his clothing, although original Mego, are worn and need some TLC. This set of characters include: Starsky: Portrayed by Paul Michael Glaser in the television series, Detective David Starsky was the streetwise and sometimes rather brash one of the pair. Starsky comes complete with his signature blue sweater and blue jeans. These is minor wear on this action figures head (see photos) and I am not sure the shoes are correct from when he was sold. Some photos I have see show him in moccasins instead of boots. Hutch: Portrayed by David Soul in the television series, Detective Ken (Hutch) Hutchinson was the intellectual and more reserved of the pair. Hutch comes complete with his brown “suede” vest, yellow sweater and blue jeans. Huggy Bear: Outside of the title characters, there wasn't anyone more popular on the Starsky and Hutch television show than the original cool cat himself, Huggy Bear. Expertly portrayed by Antonio Fargas, Huggy Bear was the main street informant to Starsky and Hutch, and assisted them in cracking many a cases open on the show. Huggy Bear comes decked out in his suave looking denim leisure suit and an ascot!! It takes a real man to be able to pull an ascot off, and Huggy Bear nailed it. This action figure is missing his shoes as well as his signature hat. Also, the left knee pin has been replaced with an aftermarket pin. His clothes have a lot of wear, with a sleeve seam separating as well as a missing lower snap on his jacket. I am the original owner of these toys.
