Description: Offered is a classic solid-state Harman Kardon 330B Stereo Receiver fully refurbished, in excellent working condition and generally in very good to excellent cosmetic condition. It is rated at 20 watts per channel into 8 ohms speaker loads. As received just about everything was working well but both tuners had drifted out of alignment. As with a 45+ year old receiver there are parts that are considered to have age related issues. Generally it is considered worthwhile replacing all electrolytic capacitors and transistors known to age badly (e.g. 2SC1344, 2SC1245, 2SC458) so as to avoid any major problems down the road. The original illumination was a bit dimmer than what one would prefer. Key service items of note: 1. All electrolytic capacitors, with the exception of the main filter cap, (including those on the tuner board) have been replaced. For audio often Nichion FG capacitors (if not then KW, KL series or Panasonic FM) were used and, for those related to power supply/filtering, Nichicon PW (if not PS, FW or HE). In many cases the voltage rating was increased. The main filter capacitor was upgraded from 6800uF (35V) to 8200uF (50V) of capacitance. Capacitors below 1 uF of capacitance were replaced with Panasonic or Kemet polypropylene film caps. Transistors known to age badly, those in the phono equalizer, main power amp and tone board, were replaced as well. Matched pairs were used where needed. Switching diodes in the power supply (plus the bridge rectifier) and the main amp were replaced. All six 2W resistors and the two bias trim pots on the power amp board were replaced with 3W resistors and cermet pots respectively. 2. All front controls were cleaned with Deoxit and, additionally, a synthetic lubricant was applied where needed. 3. LED upgrade on all bulbs with two exceptions, that of the power switch and the "STEREO" beacon. Where needed optical gel filter films were used to reproduce the coloration of the original lighting. To my eye the display is a very good match to that of the incandescent bulbs but definitely brighter. 4. Full AM and FM alignments were performed. Both tuners work well. The FM alignment improved the overall reception considerably. The 3-gang FM tuner has good sensitivity but, as is usual, fair selectivity. Antenna alignment can be important for the best reception depending on the station. 5. Amplifier bias adjusted to specifications in the service manual. Left and right amplifier outputs start clipping at just above 13.7 VAC rms (at 1kHz) or just about 24wpc. No problems were observed at "high" power. This is not, by any means, a high power receiver.7. Major dust removed and exterior cleaned.9. All functions fully tested. Cosmetics: The front/back panels and knobs are generally in excellent condition with just some very minor signs of wear. The anodized aluminum trim on the underside does have some scratches but they are not seen from the front. The black textured vinyl covered case is generally in very good to excellent condition. The receiver is fully operational and works great but I did notice one quirk (common in other receivers of this vintage): The signal strength meter does oscillate a bit in sync with a strong musical beat.
