A broadside ballad by the name "A Newe Northen Dittye of ye Ladye Greene Sleves" was registered by Richard Jones at the London Stationers' Company in September 1580, and the tune is found in several late 16th-century and early 17th-century sources, such as Ballet's MS Lute Book and Het Luitboek van Thysius, as well as various manuscripts preserved in the Seeley Historical Library in the University of Cambridge. Description ~ Gorgeous handcrafted engraved glass/brass enclosure made by Via Vermont in Mexico. The brass music movement is made by Sankyo Japan. Blue tinted glass on the sides. Curved and etched top glass with a dove holding a ribbon inscribed with “Peace on Earth”. Exterior dimension measures APPROXIMATELY 4.5” x 3.5” x 2" Condition ~Sounds beautiful- plays “Greensleeves” perfectly. The mechanics are fine, knob turns easily. The lid has a chain to hold it up and closes by lowering, then gently pressing in the center (magnet maybe as there is a moment of a hesitate gap- perhaps to protect the lid from banging to close. Simply lower the lid, then press gently to close completely. There is a curved spring mechanism that once the lid closes stops the music box. Some patina to the brass as it is 30 years old, no cracks in glass. One image has a wiggly line but it is a reflection. Delightful gift! Plus you can store trinkets and jewelry in the right compartment. You will receive what you see in the pictures.
