Description: Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn Hotel in Las Vegas Statue By Artist Ron Lee # 24/1200 This was commissioned to commemorate 50 years of the Famous Wilbur Clark's Desert Inn, Las Vegas. There were 1200 of these made in 2000. This statue is #24 of 1200 Limited Editions. It is signed by the Artist, Ron Lee. The Onyx Stone Base measures:11 1/2" x 8 1/2". It stands11" tall at the top of the divers head. Weight (before packaging) is 15 pounds. It has a beautiful heavy onyx stone base . Gold Dust Sand around the tile design of the pool. The pools water is iridescent clear turquoise, you can see the lane lines under the water as in the real pool. There is a life ring on the diving board with "Desert Inn" written on it. The woman sitting on the low diving board is happy looking at the gentlemen about to dive off of the high board, he has his head turned to her with a smile. The weight of the board looks like it was calculated perfectly with the diver ready to do a back dive. This is such a Great Piece. Beautifully detailed. Looking for a new home. We took some outdoor pictures so you can see the bright colors of this Ron Lee Statue in the sun. It has been well cared for all of these years. We are the original owners. It was gifted to us in 2001 by a friend in Scottsdale, Arizona. We have enjoyed it ever since. The only issue is that one side of the thin metal rail of the high dive is detached has a bend, it was given to us like that, never took much notice of it until we were taking pictures to list it. Does not take away from the beauty of this sculpture, it looks as if it can be repaired. Please see pictures. Will take care and pack this item safe for shipping. To note: The comedian Don Rickles owned one of these (#200/1200) his estate sold it in 2022 for $1700. Some History on the Artist Ron Lee: Ron Lee was best known for his clown sculptures, but he also created popular collectibles for Disney like Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Ariel and for Warner Bros., like Bugs Bunny and Pepé le Pew.Jill Lee says she and her husband were in business together for over 40 years, moving around to different cities."We started in Canoga Park. We went to Chatsworth, we went to Simi Valley, we went to Las Vegas for 15 years, back to Simi Valley and then for the last 14 years we've been here in Burbank," Lee said.Lee took over the headquarters in Burbank in 2017 after Ron suddenly passed away from a stroke. She said business had been going great for the past six years, but now the era of Ron Lee art casting is coming to an end.b. 1947 - d. 2017BiographyBorn in Southern California in 1947, artist Ron Lee began carving at the age of 12. In his teens, he sculpted and cast bronze animals. Ron Lee's figurines of the Emmett Kelly Senior and Junior clown characters, based on famous circus clowns, became among his most known works. Ron Lee's figurines were not limited to clowns, however. In 1990, he was commissioned by Disney to create a Mickey Mouse sculpture, and then he went on to work with Marvel, DC Comics, and several other large entities. Ron Lee's artwork went through a long, detailed process. First he sculpted the piece, then preserved it in casting materials, and finally, he hand painted it with chrome and gold detailing.
